Walcountian Blues away, Prem - 3 Dec 2005
Purley returned to their previous home for this week's clash with the Blues. Having warmed up in bright sunshine the Lacrosse gods must have know what was in store as the heavens opened as the whistle sounded.
The standard of Purley's lacrosse in the first quarter would have brought a tear to the eye of the Creator of our wonderful game, however as the clock ticked Purley's attacking movement might have briefly put a smile back on his face. The Blues on the other hand started well, and though their attack lacked penetration their patient, controlled lacrosse gave them the vast majority of possession which enabled them to work their openings and take an early 2-0 lead.
After that Purley battled back, and though poor finishing wasted many good scoring opportunities they had pulled out to a comfortable 5 goal lead in the fourth quarter. A couple of late goals by the Blues meant the game finished 8-5, a scoreline that suggests the game was closer than it was. However this was such a scrappy encounter that the highlight of the day was walking off the hill that we'd been playing on!
Matt Payne playing in his more traditional role in midfield had a good game, and Dave Cluney is now playing with the composure that allows him to impact on games. Comedy moment of the day goes to Jamie Tasko who missed a Luke Smith feed only for it to hit him in the head and end up in the back of the net! Surely Stato wouldn't allow him to claim that one.
Scorers: Matt Payne 3, Dave Arnot 2, Jamie Tasko 1, Jesse O'Hanley 1, Nigel Tasko 1
